Based on the world's first special chip for the analysis of acidic sugar chains, this project has established the most comprehensive and sensitive analytical technique for glycoproteomics so far. Using this analytical technique, researchers have characterized the molecular profiles of protein glycosylation, and discovered a new type of molecular markers for diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis and predicting influenza vaccine response. More than one hundred important sphingolipids related to neurotoxicity and tumor resistance have been discovered by using our well-established analytical method for sphingolipidomics. Moreover, nearly 400 bioactive components with immunosuppressive, anticancer and neuroprotective effects have been isolated and identified from Chinese materia medica. Novel activities, new targets and new mechanisms of action of some chemical ingredients from Chinese medicinal herbs have been clarified, and novel strategies have also been proposed for the design of anti-tumor drugs. The analytical techniques of both glycomics and sphingolipidomes are at the internationally leading level and have been highly praised by international peers. This project has published 21 SCI papers with a total impact factor of 95.82 (182 times cited by others’ SCI publications) and obtained 19 international patent approvals, which can be applied to the clinical diagnosis of autoimmune diseases and the discovery of new anti-tumor drugs.
